Police trail Guard’s murder

The Police in Ikare Akoko are now on the trails of those who murdered the 75-year-old night guard, Jimoh Teloye at the premises of the popular Osele market in Ikare Akoko.

The Commander of Ikare Area Police Command, ACP Razak Rauf, who made this known said investigation was on to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.

Rauf however warned criminals to stay clear of the area since the place is no go area for criminals, saying the police is ever ready to deal with them appropriately.

Teloye popularly called Yerepe in the area was found dead  on Monday morning as residents, particularly traders at the popular Lagos Line section of the  market, behind the Ikare Central Mosque,  woke up early to meet the corpse of  the night guard in front of some lock-up shops in the market.

The man was employed as night guard by some shop owners .

The man’s  hands were tied behind him while a  cloth was forced into his mouth  to prevent him from shouting. He was  strangled to death in the process and his assailants later broke into some shops after using sledge hammer to break the walls of the shops and carted away many goods.

When The Hope Metro  got to the scene of the incident, many onlookers and sympathisers were still milling around the area.

Some of the people, who spoke with our correspondent at the scene described the late guard, who is popularly known as Yerepe,  an indigent of Ikare, as a devoted Muslim and easy going man.

Efforts to speak with one of the shop owners, who is simply known as Victor and also an Igbo trader, was abortive as he declined to speak with our reporter.

Meanwhile the corpse of the night had been deposited at the  morgue of the  State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, as the Chief Medical Director of the hospital,  Dr Wale Oguntunase confirmed the development.are Area Police Command, ACP Razak Rauf who made this known said investigation is on to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
