From Fisayo Akinduro, Osogbo
Political office holders have been charged to use the instrument of government to better the lives of the less privileged and the downtrodden in the society.
The Grand Mufty of Osogboland, Sheik Maruf Ishola who gave the advice during an event in Osogbo urged them to always ensure fairness in the equitable distribution of wealth to the citizenry.
The Islamic scholar who noted that leadership is a call to service, said politicians should use their resources to chart the course for societal emancipation.
“Political leaders should see their positions as an opportunity to do well. They must avoid looking down on the less privileged in the society and work assiduously towards fairness to all.”
“They must also understand that the people are at the centre of their policies thereby making all concerted efforts to better their lot. As a leader, you should not forget your parents. You owe your success in life to them and the creator.”
“You must be just and see to the non-deprivation of the entitlement of the masses. By doing this, you will make progress and be more successful as a leader.”
He also charged followers of political leaders to be sensitive and always stand for peace irrespective of the political situation.
“We cannot afford to break the progress and the chain of development achieved so far. As followers, we must not fan the embers of disunity. We must cooperate with the leaders to achieve the desired result.”
