Poll: PDP advocates free primary

Stakeholders in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State have stressed the need for fairness and transparency in the conduct of gubernatorial primary towards the 2020 poll in order to avert further internal crisis.
The party’s forum of House of Assembly candidates said this at the weekend during a meeting with a gubernatorial aspirant to review the party’s performance at the last House of Assembly election.
The coordinator of the forum, Mr. Lade Fasua from Akure South Constituency 1 and Mr. Ofakurin of Akure North constituency both appealed to aspirants to ensure they accept primary election result and work with the elected candidate in other not to affect the chance of the party during the election.
Narrating their ordeal during the last election where most of them lost, they however assured of their support for the party irrespective of their loss, hence the reason they formed a forum which is first of its kind.
According to them, the primary election that produced them was based on merit and transparent, and therefore assured of their readiness to ensure that the right and marketable candidate emerged for the gubernatorial election.
The gubernatorial aspirant, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye sympathised with them over their loss and appealed to them not to relent in sustaining the party in their respective constituency.
“Politics is like a game, you win, you lose. We are going to work on our lapses, I feel bad but we will learn from our past mistakes and definitely it will never happen again”. He said.
He assured of his readiness to support the outcome of the primary if another aspirant was preferred over him by the majority as far as it was based on merit.
