By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

No fewer than 100 persons claiming to be eligible voters have been apprehended by soldiers along Gbongan/Osogbo road on Saturday.

The residents apprehended claimed they were travelling from Osogbo to Ede town in order to cast their votes.

The Hope correspondent gathered that the voters who clearly displayed their voters identity cards were stopped by the military personnel at checkpoint.

Some of the voters were in a Toyota bus, while others were in vehicles heading to Ede and Ayetoro respectively.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the voters who identified himself as Pastor James, spoke on behalf of others, that they were coming from Osogbo and heading to Ede town at about 7am when they were suddenly stopped by armed soldiers.

He explained that they presented their voters’ cards for easy identification but the security men refused to allow them to their voting centre.

His words “We have been participating in elections for 8 years now. We always travel to our respective areas to vote and we have never experienced this kind of harassment from security men.

“This military personnel are too overzealous and it’s for their interest we are voting because their salaries are paid through tax payers money.”

Our of the soldiers who spoke to our correspondent said the voters were allegedly stopped at a checkpoint while travelling to Ede.

He said the voters were in different vehicles claiming that they’re going to cast their votes at Ede when they know that there were restriction order during voting period.
