Tragedy struck on Monday evening when a 42-year-old motorcyclist, popularly known as ‘panel beater,’ was crushed to death by the driver of a  Totoya  Hilux, belonging to the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, in Ondo East local government area of Ondo State.

The deceased,  popularly known as panel beater, was said to be riding his motorbike home to break his fast, when he met his untimely death.

The accident involved a Toyota Hilux with number plate 53W-12FG and a motorcycle

It was gathered that the deceased  was riding his  motorbike on same lane with the Hilux heading to Akure, when the driver crushed him from the rear.

An eyewitness, Ayo Oladele told The Hope Metro that “the deceased, a muslim, was going home to break his fast after work, when the vehicle crushed him.

“Not quite long he left  his shop,  we heard a crash. And on getting to the scene,  we saw the deceased’s motorcycle. The Hillux carried him from the motorcycle and swerved to the other side of the road.

“All that I can say is that the accident happened as a result of overspeeding and reckless driving by the Hilux driver,” Oladele stressed.

The police in Igba Division were said to have rushed to the scene, where they made frantic efforts to calm the people down and took the lifeless body to an undisclosed mortuary in the town.

When our correspondent visited the area, sympathizers wore sad look, while some people were seen in groups discussing the incident.
