Polytechnic education, panacea to unemployment

From Victor Akinkuolie, Ado-Ekiti
|
The menace of unemployment among Nigeria youths has been attributed to lack of educational  revolution and proper entrepreneurship development.

This was the submission of the founder of a Polytechnic in  Ikere Ekiti, Dr Busayo Ajayi, saying the rate of unemployment in Nigeria is pathetic.

He said that the brain behind the establishment of polytechnic education in Nigeria is to give required trainings for students to be employers of labour.

“We need revolution in the area of entrepreneurship education in our institutions of higher learning to solve this fundamental problem

“The philosophy behind polytechnic education in Nigeria is all about empowering students to be self reliant after their  learning.

“It amounts to failure if 70percent of students graduating from a polytechnic are not able to set up a sustainable business after their education.

“Education is beyond awarding certificates. Sound and right education is the sure foundation to building a great nation”

Dr Ajayi spoke at the 2nd Matriculation ceremony of Ajayi Polytechnic, which came up at the school premises in Ikere Ekiti.

The Polytechnic founder added that the vision of Ajayi Polytechnic was borne out of passion to contribute towards solving the unemployment problem of Nigerian graduates.

Congratulating the matriculants of the institution for taking the right decision to come to Ajayi Polytechnic, the school founder urged the students to be determined in order to actualize their dreams.

“Our great nation, Nigeria is waiting for you, you cannot afford to disappoint destiny and the great future that awaits you”

Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Micheal Alonge noted that the institution is ready to support the students reach their goals

“We are Polytechnic is coming up with innovative entrepreneurship programme to make students independent and employers of labour

“The focus of the Polytechnic is to develop human capital.
