The victory over FC Bako has set up a Round of 32 encounter between Sunshine Stars and fellow NPFL side, Plateau United, scheduled for 1st April 2024.

Ajibola Matthew put Sunshine Stars ahead in the 13th minute with a stunning strike into the top corner of the net.

The Nigeria Premier Football League side pushed for more goals thereafter, but their efforts were thwarted by the Kogi-based team.

The Owena Whales had the chance to double their lead but missed several goal-scoring opportunities.

The Akure-based side continued their attacking play, dominating the game from defence to the final third.

Their pressing game paid off in the 32nd minute when Chukwudi Esobe doubled the lead for his side.

Elmer Arunta was later sent off with a straight red card for a dangerous foul on an opponent just minutes before the end of the first half.

The second half produced no further goals, as Sunshine Stars cruised to a 2-0 victory, setting up a Round of 32 clash against Plateau United in the FA Cup.
