The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the Presidential election results in 28 States and the FCT. Out of the results of 28 states released, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was leading in 11 states, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, led in 10 states while Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, controlled seven states.
The commission which commenced the announcement of the results on Monday had delays from issues raised by various political parties about the malfunctioning of BVAS in some states.
As at the time of filing in this report yesterday night, the ruling party, The All Progressives Congress, APC, appears to be coasting home to victory with the results announced.
The APC is so far, according to the results announced, leading with a popular vote of 7,851,995, while the PDP, 6,206,316, Labour Party, 4,043,360 and the NNPP, 1,512,962.
The states where the APC won are: Benue, Borno, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Zamfara.
The PDP led in Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina, Taraba and Kebbi.
The LP won in seven states: Lagos, Plateau, FCT, Abia, Enugu, Edo, Nasarawa.
The NNPP won in Kano state.
The INEC has adjourned its collation activities at its centre in Abuja for a break to resume at 9pm to continue the announcement.
Recall that INEC restated that the winner of the presidential election must score the highest votes and the required 25 percent in two-thirds spread in the 36 states of the federation.
