Journalists have been urged to cultivate the habit of giving glory to God for granting them the grace to celebrate this year’s Press Week.
The General Overseer of Salvation Gospel International Centre, Senior Apostle Foluso Michael Ajibobola, gave this advice during the thanksgiving service marking 2024 Press Week held at his church in Akure on Sunday.
While delivering his sermon, Ajibobola stated that God is a jealous God who does not like to share His glory with anyone else and desires that praise and worship be given to Him alone. He cited verses from the Holy Bible in Exodus 20:1-4, where God describes Himself as a jealous God.
He also referenced Exodus 20:1-2, 4 and the book of Isaiah 42:8, which emphasise the supremacy of the Lord, who has always been present, granting grace and mercy at all times.
“It is not your ability that has kept you alive till now, but God’s grace. All glory should be returned to Him,” he said.
He commended and appreciated the NUJ for giving God what He truly deserves—thanksgiving for a good life.
Earlier, the Ondo State Chairman of the NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite, stated that the press week serves as the AGM of a large organisation, during which the union celebrates and appreciates God’s faithfulness, mercy, and grace toward journalists over the past three years.
He described the General Overseer as a remarkable man of God and an exceptional personality. Adegbite noted that the overseer has facilitated the union’s association with him, and it is on record that he has been a strong supporter of many less privileged individuals.
Adegbite prayed that no harm would befall any NUJ members and expressed gratitude for their support, which has sustained the union’s leadership and development.
During the thanksgiving session, Evangelist Raphael Oloyede Irewole prayed for journalists, describing journalism as a critical profession that informs society about current events. “They need to be prayed for as they discharge their duties,” he declared.
