Political leaders have been tasked to be godly and place the well-being and survival of the people above their self-interest.
The General Overseer of The Way of Holiness Chapel, Pastor Johnson Falade who made the appeal while speaking with The Hope in Ore, accused some political leaders of caring less about the killings in their states so long as their personal ambitions to remain in power are not threatened.
According to him, “We expect leaders to prepare to pay the price of leading their people. Leadership should come with a cost.
“To out it bluntly, we are seeing too many leaders sitting around believing that it is better for the whole nation to perish than for them to leave office.”
Falade urged believers to focus on their faith rather than worry over any Islamisation agenda as peddled in some circles.
He said, “Jesus said love your enemies. If you become a Christian and it didn’t challenge you in any new way. Then, probably, you’ve not seen it yet. It has to challenge you.
He called on Nigerians to be patriotic by learning from the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers, and encourage the present leaders to do right things.
The pastor attributed the phenomenon of vote buying during elections to poverty and ignorance, which politicians capitalize on to deceive the people.
According to him, to curtail the situation, government must meet up to its responsibilities of improving the nation’s economy to provide life changing opportunities for all.
He called on religious and community leaders to always lead by example, adding that they must be ready to tell the political class the truth than their personal interest.
The cleric added that knowledge work hand in hand with development, as such people should remain focused and not allow themselves to be used negatively by politicians.
