Prison officer commits suicide over inability to pay bills

A prison officer attached to Segede Correctional Centre in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State has reportedly killed himself over his inability to pay some bills.
The deceased, Kayode Adeniyi, popularly called K Pumping, on Monday shot himself in the head in his room and died instantly.

He was said to have complained that his neighbours and other residents in the street were making jest of him because he was owing house rent, electricity bill and other bills.
Colleagues of the deceased who spoke with The Hope Metro said he had been complaining for some days over some financial challenges he was facing.

“Whenever we were discussing, he would be lamenting over some issues, which included house rent and electricity bills.

“We even advised him to relocate to another place if he could not stand it or calm down those he was owing that he would pay them later.
“We did not know he had another plan in mind. We did not know why he did that? Probably it was due to stress from personal issues or other things challenges,” they revealed.

The Police were said to have rushed to the scene after they were informed by the officers on duty that a case of an officer that committed suicide had been reported.
When our correspondent visited the area, residents and other colleagues wore sad looks, while some were seen sitting in groups discussing the incident.

The cause of his death still remained sketchy as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, a police source confirmed the incident, saying the exhibit the deceased used is in police custody.
He said investigation is ongoing to know the cause of his death while his corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.
