There was a mild drama at the Osun State High Court premises in Osogbo when official of the Ilesa prison allegedly slapped a lawyer, Mr. Kasiamobi Eze Ngwoke.
Trouble started when the lawyer who was unhappy with the manner in which the warden reportedly slapped inmate who was his client because was slow in entering into the prison van.
It was learnt that the lawyer who witnessed the assault on the inmate by the prison warden reportedly approached the prison warden to educate them the inmate that had not been convicted by a competent court still have a personal liberty and should be respected.
The Hope Metro learnt that the inmate was a client to Ngwoke.
The prison warden who was not happy with the manner of approach of the lawyer reportedly slapped him and threatened to shoot him.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Awodele, who was watching the drama from the court, was said to have summoned the lawyer and the prison official to inquire about what has happened.
Magistrate Awodele having listened to both the lawyer and the prisons official cautioned the prisons officers that they have no right to maltreat or assault an accused, let alone slap a lawyer.
