Professor Gideon Okedayo’s death sad-ODSG

The Governor of Ondo State Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has described the death of Professor Gideon Okedayo of the State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa as tragic and sad.

The Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Mr Femi Agagu at the Okitipupa residence of the late professor during a condolence visit said the academic community has lost another gem.

He said the perpetrators of the heinous and dastardly act were enemies of the society and would not go unpunished

While urging the widow and other family members of the deceased to take solace in God, the Governor said death is an inevitable end, adding that God is unquestionable.

The Governor who acknowledged the fact that the vacuum created might be difficult to fill, prayed to God to console and grant the entire family the fortitude to bear the loss and as well give them joy.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sunday Ogunduyile said the University community had been thrown into mourning since the news of the death of the Professor was announced on Monday this week.

Professor Ogunduyile described late Okedayo as one of the best hands in the University. His words, “Okedayo was reliable, dedicated and committed to duty, always diffusing tensions.”

Speaking on the steps taken by the university during his abduction, Prof Ogunduyile said the Commissioners of Police for Ondo and Edo States and other security agencies were immediately contacted for possible rescue but to no avail.

Family members and sympathisers were wearing mournful look and couldn’t speak to newsmen  during the visit.

It would be recalled that Gideon Okedayo, a professor of Mathematical Science in Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa  was abducted by unknown gunmen on Thursday last week and reportedly died in captivity .

Other notable people who joined the Governor’s representative on the visit were the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University and the current Chairman Governing Council, Professor Adebo Adesomoju, the Deputy Vice Chancellor  Professor Francis Igbasan and other Principal officers of the University.
