Protect PHCN, public infrastructure in your domain, Adeleke charges monarchs

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on traditional rulers to ensure the protection of critical public infrastructure, particularly PHCN facilities, within their respective domains.
Addressing the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, led by its president, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Adeleke underscored the need for communities to safeguard government properties against vandalism and criminal activities.
The governor expressed concern over the increasing cases of vandalism targeting newly renovated Primary Health Care (PHC) centres, particularly the destruction of solar panels and water supply systems. He charged the monarchs with the responsibility of securing these facilities and ensuring they serve their intended purpose.
“Our communities must rise to protect government investments, especially in healthcare and electricity infrastructure. We cannot afford to allow criminals to sabotage our collective progress,” he said.
Adeleke also urged the traditional leaders to encourage the use of PHC facilities, particularly among pregnant women and nursing mothers, noting that all services at the centres are provided free of charge. He emphasised that his administration remains committed to delivering accessible healthcare to all residents.
On the lingering local government leadership crisis in the state, the governor clarified that the removal of some council chairmen was in line with a Federal High Court ruling in October 2022, which nullified their elections due to procedural irregularities.
“The court had declared those elections illegal before my administration came on board. We are only ensuring compliance with the rule of law. Vacancies will be filled in accordance with legal and constitutional provisions,” he stated.
Adeleke urged the monarchs to enlighten their subjects on the importance of unity, peace, and adherence to legal processes, warning that misinformation and lawlessness could lead to unrest and stall development in the state.
“We are committed to transparency, justice, and the well-being of all Osun residents. Our engagement with traditional rulers is aimed at fostering collaboration for the state’s progress,” he added.
In his remarks, Ooni Ogunwusi expressed the concern of the traditional rulers over the crisis in the local government administration, stressing that Osun remains a peaceful state and should not be plunged into turmoil.
“We are not happy with the situation. Osun is known for peace, and this must be maintained regardless of the issues at stake. Your Excellency, you are welcome to our midst, and we are ready to listen to you,” the Ooni said.
