Protest: FG tightens security at borders
In response to the upcoming nationwide protests against bad governance, the Federal Government has increased security at all national borders.
Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, has instructed all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOS) to enhance surveillance and security measures.
Service Spokesman DCI Kenneth Udo announced that this directive aims to prevent foreign elements from entering the country to join the protests.
The statement stressed the need for heightened vigilance given the planned protests by various groups.
“The Comptroller General emphasized the critical role of the Immigration Service in safeguarding the nation’s borders and instructed officers, especially Heads of Border Commands, to ensure that no foreign elements use the protests to destabilize the country.”
Nandap also temporarily suspended all leave applications and urged officers to display professionalism and patriotism during and after the protests, emphasizing that Nigeria is their only home.
The CGIS assured Nigerians of the service’s commitment to securing the nation’s borders and enhancing national security.
