Protest may worsen situation, Filani warns

A public affairs analyst, Chief Dapo Filani, has advised youths and other citizens across the country to shelve the proposed August 1 national protest over economic hardship.

At an event in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Filani called on those involved in the planned hunger protest to dialogue with the government rather than embark on a protest that may further bring hardship to the people.

He charged various youth groups, associations, and the protest organisers to work with the government at all levels to alleviate the current economic hardship.

He also warned against any form of destruction in the South West, as this may portend serious danger and slow down development in the region.

The public affairs commentator particularly urged concerned citizens, including students, politicians, and various unions, to shun the proposed protest tagged #EndBadGovernance.

Chief Filani appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu as he tries to provide both long-term and short-term solutions to the challenges in the country.

According to him, the President is seriously working on the economy, encouraging local production to reduce reliance on importation, and strengthening the naira and the foreign reserves.

“A producing nation is a powerful nation while an importing nation is a slave to others,” he stressed.

He also warned that the planned protest may portend serious danger to Nigeria if allowed to hold, as it happened in other countries, saying that the protest will be hijacked by hoodlums who will want to destroy the South West region.

Filani urged Nigerians to hold the President by his words as he promised to address all issues raised by organizers of the protest for the betterment of the country.

He equally advocated for more support for farmers to ensure food sufficiency in the country, and lauded the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for providing security around farmlands in the state, saying this will give farmers confidence to continue their farming activities without fear of being attacked or kidnapped.
