‘Provide signs for Oba-Ile/Airport road

By Tola Gbadamosi

Ondo State government and the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC have been urged to provide road signs along the Oba-Ile Airport road to curb incessant accidents on the road.
This appeal was made by motorists plying the road in separate interviews with The Hope Metro.
They observed that no week passes without a fatal accident on the road.
One of the motorists, Mr Demilade Dada whose residence is located along the road, noted that many drivers plying the road are strangers who were not fully aware of the dangerous bends, especially around Jojain Hotel and ODIEC office, where the accidents often occur.
He noted that several nights, many drivers who were not familiar with the road while negotiating the ODIEC bend, ended up in the ditch beside the road.
He advised that if the road signs were installed, the drivers would be informed ahead where to slow down and would stop speeding.
He advised that if the road furnitures are installed, drivers would understand the road better and would not speed too much when they get on the new road.
He added that it is because most drivers don’t know how to apply the sloppy cove by Jeogein hotel that is why crashes are frequent on the spots.
Speaking with the Ondo state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Ahmmed Hassan said that most drivers are without driving license.
He noted that the Oba-Ile road was recently constructed and met standard.
He added that the road is a very smooth road with covers where there are ditches both sides.
He noted that motorists are supposed to drive carefully as there is a speed limit for vehicles within the town. But because of the smoothness of the road they run on top speed and ended up with accident.
“We will need to talk with the State Ministry of Works to enable us handle the black spots and identify the crash points.
We are now in the raining season, I have also observed that most motorists do not have cooling system in their vehicles, and they were forced to drive with one hand while cleaning windscreen with another hand.
He said motorists have poor vision while it is raining, and that it is better to park when it is raining and wait till when it stops while the light is on.
