Jimoh Ahmed, Owo.
Scores of people have been rendered homeless, following a torrential rainfall which wreaked havoc in the border town of Ikakumo-Akoko, in Akoko Northeast Local Government of Ondo State on Tuesday.
No fewer than 50 houses were affected in the 30 minutes downpour which was accompanied by strong wind.
The rainfall which occurred between 7.30 pm and 8.00 pm had many rooftops blown off while properties worth several thousands of Naira were also destroyed.
According to a resident of the area, Mr. Sunday Omogboye, who claimed to have witnessed the occurrence, many residents are now homeless while some are squatting with relatives and friends.
Omogboye lamented that the victims might remain homeless for life as they might not be able to put back their buildings without external assistance as a result of the skyrocketing prices of building materials.
Commenting on the natural disaster, a former Chief of Staff to late Governor Adebayo Adefarati, Mr Foluso Aminu, who is also an indigene of the town, he appealed to the state governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to kindly consider the plight of the victims.
Aminu also called on the member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko Northeast/Northwest Federal Constituency, Hon Ife Ehindero, including Senator Jide Ipinsagba and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo, to also come to the aid of the victims.
