Rainstorm: Aiyedatiwa, Oladiji visit Ita-Ogbolu

In response to the devastating rainstorm that struck Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State House of Assembly on Saturday inspected the affected community.
Expressing his sympathy at the palace of the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, Aiyedatiwa expressed shock hearing the loss of life during the incident.
Acknowledging the unforeseen nature of such disasters, the Governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
“We thank God that it was not more than that, may God give the family of the woman who lost her life the fortitude to bear the loss. I have to come since I heard about the incident.
He assured the community that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had been actively assessing the damage and would provide necessary assistance to the victims.
“SEMA is actively working on the situation and will get the details and send them to the deputy governor whose office is in charge”
Aiyedatiwa emphasized government’s readiness to address such emergencies and promised to act promptly upon receiving the detailed reports from SEMA.
Highlighting the importance of preventive measures, Aiyedatiwa encouraged residents to plant more trees to mitigate the impact of future disasters.
He expressed gratitude to the community and its traditional ruler for their peaceful coexistence.
Earlier, the State House of Assembly Speaker, Chief Olamide Oladij who accompanied the member representing the constituency, Kolawole Ologede to inspect the affected areas and also visited the palace promising government’s prompt attention.
The Speaker said as an arm of government, the house will make recommendations to the appropriate quarters.
He Oladiji noted that it affected not only residential areas but also churches and Schools.
The lawmaker representing the constituency, Kolawole Ologede informed that over 200 houses were affected with many homeless.
He assured the people that government will intervene very soon.
The Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, Oba Idowu Faborode, reciprocated the governor and the House of Assembly’s gesture, thanking them for their concern and compassion during this trying time.
Recounting their losses in various streets visited in Ita-ogbolu, victims said that the rain which lasted for about 30 minutes damaged roofs, buildings among others, noting that they are still in shock and disbelief with the sad occurrence.
They appealed to the government to come to their rescue as the sad event has render them homeless.
