Rainstorm wreaked havoc on Sunday evening in the ancient town of Ikaram in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State where many houses  roofs were  blown off.

The torrential rain which lasted for about 45 minutes, was characterised by lightning and heavy  wind which forced many residents  to run helter skelter for their lives.

Speaking with The Hope, an Ikaram Akoko community leader, Sheik Basiru Aminu, described the incident as double tragedy for the victims coupled with cash scarcity in the country which will definitely make it difficult for the affected house owners to rebuild their houses.

Mostly affected areas in the town included Iyotu and Oyagi where many houses were destroyed including the Ikaram Akoko Central Mosque.

In his reaction, the monarch of the town, The Akala of Ikaram Akoko,  Oba Andrew Momodu,  described the incident as very  unfortunate and he sympathised with vicims.

Oba Momodu appealed to government at all levels, NEMA and well to do Nigerians to come to the aids of the affected residents by providing relief materials in the form of building materials as  succour.
