The Project Coordinator of Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Mr. Sunday Adunmo, has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to urgently come to the aid of several people who were rendered homeless by rainstorm in Ilupeju Ekiti.
Adunmo who, alongside the Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Authority, Olusola Oniyelu and the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, Oba Sunday Akingbade, went round the town to assess the level of damage done by the rainstorms, said no fewer than 500 houses were affected by the heavy wind.
The Project Coordinator who hails from Ilupeju Ekiti, said the level of havoc wrecked by the storm can only be adequately addressed by the combined efforts of the federal and state governments as well as well-to-do indigenes of the town.
While noting that majority of the over 1000 people affected by the havoc are aged and senior citizens, Adunmo specifically called on members of Ilupeju Development Association (IDA), to quickly provide support for their kinsmen at the critical time.
He urged residents to imbibe the culture of tree planting, so that they can serve as windbreakers and protection for houses.
The Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, Oba Sunday Akingbade described the incident as wanton destruction which was too much for the community to bear.
Oba Akingbade called on the Ekiti State government to assist the affected people to rebuild their houses that collapsed and reroof roof tops blown off by the storm.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area, Olusola Oniyelu, said the damage was beyond the control of the LCDA, saying documentation has been done to be forwarded to the Ekiti state government for prompt attention.
