Rainstorm victims assured of govt’s assistance –Olowolabi
victims of the recent rainstorms disaster in Idanre Local Government area of Ondo State have been assured of the state government’s assistance.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi gave this reassurance yesterday after going round the Idanre community to see on first hand the level of devastation
Olowolabi who commiserated with the people on behalf of the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu inspected all the affected areas like Utaja, Ojota, Yaba, St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Atosin Idanre where a whole block of four classrooms and the Vice Principal’s office which had the roof blown off and four giant gmelina trees uprooted by the storm that fell on March 26, 2019 without any prior sign of disaster looming.
The Commissioner who was visibly sad of over the development said, he was sure the governor being a person who doesn’t want any human being to suffer will soon do something to help the people to reduce their pains .
Olowolabi said the appropriate government agencies concerned with such intervention will be contacted for necessary and appropriate actions.
He however used the opportunity to call on public spirited individuals to help the victims, adding that government cannot do everything.
Meanwhile, another twist had been brought into the unpleasant disaster as one of the core traditionalists in the community, Chief Victor Ojo Alalabiaye, the Bobagunwa of Idanre Kingdom traced the disaster to some Idanre people engaging in practices that their culture abhors.
Alalabiaye who is also the Education Secretary for Idanre Local Government and former Chairman of APC in Idanre Local Government Area, urged the people to remember their past and never embrace anything abominable in order to avoid a repeat of such disasters in future.
One of the victims, Mr. Kolawole Adebisi, who is a teacher at Methodist Caring Heart Mega Primary School, Onigbon who had his house destroyed pleaded for the intervention of the state government, saying all members of his family had been sleeping around neighbours’ houses.
