The first rain of the year in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government left a devastating effect on the people of Ago Paanu Community along the Owo/Ikare road on Saturday.
The rain which started at about 6.30 pm was accompanied by heavy wind which blew off many rooftops in the community.
Speaking with our reporter, a cross section of the victims while lamenting their condition, appealed to government to come to their aid.
They stated that the harsh economic condition in the country, especially, the cash crunch, has made it difficult, if not impossible, for them to repair their houses.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State, Deputy Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, has sympathised with the victims of the rainstorm and the people of the community, promising them of government assistance.
Similarly, the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly and the Lawmaker representing Owo 1 at the assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi West, the Chairman, Owo Local Government, , Samuel Adegbegi and the Chairman of Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Femi Idris have also identified with the victims and the community.
Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole was at the in the early hours of Sunday to assess the situation even as he promised to support them.
Similarly, Femi Idris who also sympathised with the victims, assured them of government intervention.
