Rainstorms destroy houses in Akoko communities

Two towns in Akoko, Ondo State, have been hit by devastating rainstorm that destroys properties worth millions of naira and left many residents counting their losses.

The Hope gathered that Arigidi and Ikare-Akoko were the worst affected area as the storm caused severe damage along Ekiteji Street, where roofs of numerous houses were completely blown off.

One of the victims, a widow identified as Mrs. Tayo Napoleon, recounted her ordeal and estimated that nearly a million Naira would be required to reroof her damaged bungalow.

She appealed to the government and well-meaning individuals for assistance in rebuilding her home.

“I am appealing to kind-hearted individuals and the government to come to my aid because I have no one else to turn to for help.

“The recent rainstorm has caused serious damage to my house, and it has left me in a very difficult situation.

“The roof of my house was completely blown off, and now the entire building is exposed to the weather.

“To repair the damage and put a new roof over my head, I will need close to a million naira. This is a huge amount for me, and I cannot raise it on my own. That’s why I am pleading for support from anyone who can help me rebuild my home and get back on my feet.

“Living in this condition has been very hard, especially with the rain still falling and no safe place to stay.

“I am afraid of  my health and safety, and I hope that help will come soon. Any assistance, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping me recover from this terrible experience.

In Ikare Akoko, the administrative block of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar school was also destroyed by the windstorm.

Alhaji Ganiyu Umar, a member of the school’s Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), said the PTA alone could not shoulder the responsibility of rebuilding the structure.

He called on the government, alumni, and the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society to come to the school’s aid.
