As the rainy season began to surface this year, an Agricultural expert, Dr Emmanuel MoyinJesu has advised farmers to use a system he called re-phasing planting and not to plant all the hectares of their farm lane.
Moyin Jesus , a Senior lecturer at the Federal College of Agriculture (FECA) said farmers should monitor the rainfall pattern nothing particularly that the official date for rainfall ought to commence in March 21.
He said farmers could plant on two conditions, first,b where the rain was heavy because there may be much moisture but that’s where it is dry a little bit, should be suspended till the next rain.
According to him, the rain will keep on falling and the tensity will keep on increasing.
He advised that they may not plant them all as the rain is falling but that they should plant some portion of the field until the rain is becoming steady.
“They could be doing what we call re-phasing planting and the nursery for pepper and cocoa should be ready to start planting on time”.
He reinstated the importance of irrigation as he called on government to make it a priority and be planned towards as well as the farmers to do so.
He noted that the tensity of the land will keep on increasing calling in farmers who have not cleared their farms to do so immediately and get prepared to plant on time.
