The Ondo State government is putting finishing touches to a draft on anti grazing law.
This indication emerged during an interview with the Ondo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Sir Charles Titiloye.
He stated that the Ministry of Justice is preparing the draft that will be forwarded to the House of Assembly.
He expressed optimism that the Assembly would be tidying up the loose aspects too at its own end.
The law, he said, became necessary in view of the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers, cases of kidnapping and rape of innocent citizens by criminal elements alleged of being herdsmen.
It would be recalled that people have been agitating for an end to the crises as the state like other states of the federation faces terrifying spate of kidnappings and killings.
Days earlier, the Ondo state government and national leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), had come to a round table directing all unregistered herders to vacate the state’s forest reserves.
At a peace meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum with the leadership of MACBAN in Akure, the state capital, it was unanimously agreed that illegal occupation of the state forest reserves, night and underaged grazing as well as grazing in the cities remained banned.
Outlining the advantages of the anti grazing law, the Attorney-General said it would help fish out criminal elements that hide under the aegies of cattle herdsmen to perpetrate crime.
