Temporary respite came the way of the family of the late driver of the Apostolic Faith Group of School, Emure-Ekiti, following the discovery of the decomposed body of the deceased.

Recall the late driver,  Taiwo Adebayo, was kidnapped on January 9, 2024, alongside some pupils and teachers of the school along Emure/Eporo-Ekiti road on their way from school to Eporo-Ekiti, a neighbouring community.

The pupils and teachers were later released after spending days in the captivity of the kidnappers. But the driver was reportedly killed by the dreaded gunmen in the forest.

According to a source close to the family, the decomposed body of the driver was discovered in the forest at the early hour of Sunday by a local hunter while on a hunting expedition in the area.

Immediately the news of the discovery of the body of the  driver was broken in the community, the family made an appeal to the State Police Command to help them retrieve the corpse reportedly found in the forest, so they could perform the burial rites in line with the culture and traditions of the town.

Also, one of the family members who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said they received a call from the chairman, Emure Local Government at the early hour of Sunday informing them that the body of the deceased was found in the forest by a local hunter, who is also of Ebira extraction, farming and staying in the forest area.

The principal of the school had confirmed that ransom was paid to secure the release of the abducted school children and teachers while the driver was shot dead in the forest.

Though, the Ekiti State Police Command was yet to confirm the development, as there were no responses to all calls and text messages put across to the telephone of the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Mr Sunday  Abutu, as at the time of filing the report.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer at Emure-Ekiti divisional police station who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the discovery of the decomposed body of the  driver and explained that arrangements were underway between the police and the family to evacuate the body from the forest.

All efforts to reach the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, proved abortive, as he was said to have gone out of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital for surveillance operations.
