Remembrance day: Aiyedatiwa lauds Armed Forces’ commitment to peace

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security both within the country and on international fronts.

The governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, made the commendation during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Jum’at service in Akure.

He paid tributes to military personnel who have served in global peacekeeping missions and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s stability.

Reaffirming the state government’s support for the families of fallen heroes, Aiyedatiwa emphasised the need to foster unity and peace among religious groups.

He further urged citizens to conduct themselves peacefully in the forthcoming local government elections and contribute to the Nigerian Legion through the purchase of the remembrance emblem.

The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Dr. Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, in his address, appealed to all levels of government to sustain their support for the Armed Forces.

He also called for unity and peace across the nation and prayed for the current administration to receive divine guidance and direction.

The chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ondo State, Col. Olu Apata (Rtd), lauded the state government for its commitment to the welfare of its members, noting the significance of such support.

Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for attending the occasion.

She highlighted the importance of honouring the men and women who courageously defended the nation’s sovereignty.

The event witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries, including members of the state executive council, serving security operatives, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion.
