Renovation work at UNIMEDTH commendable – ODSG

The Special Adviser on Health to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prof. Simidele Odimayo has commended the  developmental strides at the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital, Akure complex (UNIMEDTH/SH).

He made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the facility in Akure.

According to him, his visitation aimed at assessing the impact of various government initiatives on healthcare delivery especially in tertiary health facilities, noting that the acquisition of new medical equipment, ongoing renovations, and the dedication of the management and staff to improving healthcare services are  laudable.

While reiterating Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to ensuring enhanced healthcare for all citizens, he applauded the hospital’s management for its effective leadership and utilization of newly acquired medical equipment.

He also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing renovations saying “I have come to check, advise, and guide the management to reflect the Governor’s expectations for even greater performance, and I am impressed with what I have seen”.

Speaking earlier, Dr.Adeshina Akintan while expressing gratitude for the government’s support both in equipping the hospital and the ongoing renovation efforts, stressed the need for the government to focus on strengthening the hospital’s existing services and also address manpower challenges, which according to him are global issues.

Akintan who affirmed the effectiveness of the State Health Insurance Scheme in the hospital stressed the need for its improvement to achieve universal health coverage in the state. However, he reiterated the commitment of the hospital to providing quality healthcare services to residents
