Reparation fee: ODSG wades in

By Bisi Olominu

In order to nip in the bud another crisis that may engulf Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko over the reparation fee imposed on the students by the university management, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths and Students’ Affairs, Muyiwa Ogunyemi has met both the management and students’ leaders of the institution.

The issue of reparation fee came into being when some students caused damage to the school property and vehicles in sight when protesting the “no tuition fees no exam” directive of the school management last year.

Ogunyemi while addressing journalists in Akungba recently said that all concerns and agitations have been looked into and addressed.

His words: “The intervention was necessary to douse further tension.  Mr Governor is interested in a system that works for all and has always put students and their welfare first.  My concerns are to ensure a cordial relationship between the students, management and the government.”

Ogunyemi while welcoming the students back to the campus, also encouraged them to shun any act of violence, saying that the resultant effect will always impact the students community negatively.

Meanwhile, the Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the school management to be more considerate to the students.

In a release signed by its Chairman, Comrade Omotoso Surprise, Secretary Genera, Akinola Elijah Temitope, Publicity Secretary, Ogunjimi Tolulope James and Director of Media and Publicity, Olanisimi Babatunde Olarewaju  called on students in Akungba to be calm as all hands are on deck to address pertinent issues on ground.
