The National Orientation Agency, (NOA) Ekiti State Directorate in collaboration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), on Thursday sensitized Ekiti residents on the establishment of NERC forum office.
During the awareness programme, electricity consumers were urged to report sharp practices among the electricity distribution company.
The one-day awareness programme also witnessed road walk and rally across the streets of Ado-Ekiti, markets, bus-stops, sensitizing the public on the objectives of the forum office.
Speaking during the programme, the Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs of NERC, Mr Michael Fabusuyi, said the body is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that electricity consumers rights are protected.
He called on residents of the state to lodge their complaints to the forum office situated at KM 5 Iworoko Road, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
His words: “Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is the apex regulatory agency for Nigeria electricity supply industry and one of our mandate is to ensure that electricity consumers are protected to ensure efficient service delivery.
“Firstly, when you have issues, you lodge a complaint at their customer care unit and if you are not satisfied with the decision, you can take it to the forum office. That forum office is what we are opening in Ado-Ekiti to take care of the complaint from electricity consumers in Ekiti State, especially those that are been supplied by Benin Disco.”
On his part, the Director of NOA in Ekiti State, Mr. Akin Adeyemi, said the agency partnered with NERC to sensitize the people of the state on the need to register their displeasure on the services of electricity distributors.
According to him, NERC forum office are capable to resolve their compliants such ad consumers tarrifs, sustained improvement in reliability and quality supply.
“We are trying to sensitize the public about of the formation of forum office in Ekiti State. It is a body set up by NERC to resolve and handle complains from electricity consumers. We are here to sensitize the public that NERC forum office is here.
“In the first instance, they have to report to the Benin Disco and if they are not satisfied then they have to report to forum office.
“We have capable people that will resolve their complains. The public will not be exposed to unnecessary hardship from electricity distributors.”
