Traders in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo local government area of Ondo state have lamented hike in prices of rice, beans and yam
They also lamented over low patronage from buyers.
According to a survey, a bag of foreign rice ranges from N27,000 to N31,000 while a bag of Honey and drum beans range from N45,000 to N68,000 naira.
Our correspondent who visited some markets in Ore, observed that a bag of onions was sold at N50,000.
Speaking with The Hope, a retailer, Mrs Oluwole Toyin said the hike in price has affected her sales, stressing that customers do compare her goods with that of other people before buying them.
“It has not been easy, though it is not anybody’s fault over the hike in prices, but one needs to aspire to make profit in the goods he/she is selling.
In a contrary opinion, a food vendor, Mrs Grace Okoro opined that the hike in price of rice and other food items never affected her business
She said “Despite the hike in price of rice, people still buy, because as far Nigeria is concerned, rice is the common food as at today”
“There is no much gain in the market, but it is better to be selling something, than for us to stay at home doing nothing”, she said.
