Residents nab burglar in Ondo

A 37-year-old man identified as Idris Abubarka, has been arrested by residents of Barracks road in Ondo town while attempting to enter the house of one Oladele Adedotun in the community.
Eyewitnesses told The Hope Metro that the incident happened on Monday evening around 06:30 pm while the victim was about to break into the residence.
It was gathered that the suspect suddenly opened the door of the house, brought out his gun and pointed it at the inhabitants.
The occupants of the house were said to have struggled with him and in the process held his hand and collected the gun from him.
He was arrested by the residents who came to their rescue and handed him over to the police.
Other members of his gang were said to have escaped immediately after they saw the suspect had been overpowered.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said,” I noticed a strange movement at the back of the house. Later, I saw the suspect through the window as he was coming to our house.
“So, I quickly called on others in the house on the phone to inform them.
“Immediately, we all gathered at the entrance of the door before he could open it.
“So, immediately he opened the door, we attacked him. We targeted the gun with him and held his hands to collect it. The gun got broken and he was powerless. He was arrested by the people and tied.
“Other members of his gang ran away because the residents of the street had gathered when we were struggling with the robber and also shouting thief.
“The suspect was later arrested by angry residents and was beaten to coma before he was handed over to the police at Yaba division,” he explained.
A police source who confirmed the arrest said the residents in the area have been complaining about housebreaking.
He said the suspect will be charged to court soon for prosecution.
