Resignation: PDP leaders in war of words over Agboola

By Josephine Oguntoyinbo

Crisis yesterday hit the Ondo State branch of the Peoples Democratic party over the position of the state Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi not to resign from his plum seat
The latest crisis followed claims and counter claims by leaders of the party over Agboola’s propriety in hanging on to the Deputy Governor’s position after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Trouble hit the PDP when its South-West Publicity Secretary, Mr Ayo Fadaka threw a dart at Agboola asking him to show honour and step down.
Fadaka who spoke on Channels Television upbraided Agboola to show decency by quitting the administration which gave him the seat.
He insisted that there must be standard people keep even in politics and asked Agboola to do the needful by resigning honorably.
According to him “the manner some politicians play politics suggests to the world that politicians in the country do not have conscience, adding that there are still politicians with conscience around”.
In a swift disclaim, Mr Zadok Akintoye, the Director of Media and Publicity countered Fadaka insisting that his opinion does not represent the PDP’s position on Agboola Ajayi.
Ayo Fadaka who spoke further in a telephone interview with The Hope said a man of integrity with good ethical background will always toe the path of honour
” It is expedient for a man of honour like Agboola to do the honourable thing by resigning from office since he can no longer cooperate with the Governor who put so much trust in him.
”If he cannot run as a deputy governor to a man who put so much trust on him, a man who put so much confidence on him, but now find himself in PDP, the onus is on him to do what is morally just, right, and do the needful by totally severing relationship with the party that put him in power and come totally to PDP.
”In USA, Britain and other developed countries, once you cannot work with your party again, you severe relationship with such. Since you cannot work with strange bed fellow, it is pertinent for you to severe all relationships with that fellow and party”
Fadaka maintained that there must be a level of standard people must keep even in politics, stressing that politics is not as bad as the way it is being played by desperate politicians.
He noted that the manner some politicians play politics suggests to the world that politicians in Nigeria dont have conscience, adding that there are still politicians with good conscience around.
The PDP spokesperson stressed that it is up to the Governor and the APC to do an appraisal whether they still have a running mate in Agboola Ajayi as the deputy governor who is now in the PDP.
He said “Impeachment is expected to be initiated if it is considered that person to be impeached has committed high crimes against the system. But again, with the decamping of Agboola can it be construed to be high crime against the state?
“The constitution says that for every Governor that will contest, he should have a running mate and that’s why there is always a deputy governor to assist the Governor
