Restructuring ‘ll address Nigeria’s challenges – Adu

By Jubril Bada
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo State, Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu, has said that a complete restructuring of Nigeria is needed if the country must move forward.
Adu spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He noted that as far as Nigeria’s democracy is concerned, the country has a lot of areas that need to be addressed, particularly on the faulty constitution to ensure its total overhauling is achieved.
According to him: “There is need to provide good leadership that can make resources flow in from different sources to boost our Gross Domestic Product ( GDP).
“If we talk of politics in Nigeria we have a long way to go because our constitution is faulty and needs total overhauling.
“A first class female student in the school l attended doesn’t need to join politics but to join an organisation and think of how to rise and become the managing director for effective service delivery.
“The money we waste in governance should be used to develop our resources and infrastructure.”
The chieftain, who also identified poor system as a major problem in the country, said the accurate number of civil servants could not be given to avoid ghost workers in Ministries , Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and even parastatals.
He emphasized that many civil servants are redundant, noting that the N30,000 minimum wage can not take care of their needs and that it makes them engage in corruption.
“A policeman who has family in Kano, brought to Lagos-lbadan Express Way to provide security, how much is his salary and when his family demands more than he receives, why won’t he be involved in corruption?
“The citizens of the western world are not disciplined more than Nigerians. They can be seen in public being naked, It is their institutions that make them seem disciplined.
“The system is bad and it will always allow corruption except it is corrected and we must be ready to sacrifice and work, for us to achieve that.”he noted.
