Primary and secondary schools in Ondo state today resumed for the 2nd term of the 2022/23 academic session.

The State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology went round the state to assess the level of preparation for the new term.

While the monitoring exercise took place across the local government areas in the state, some of the schools visited are, Akure High School, Oyemekun Grammar School and Ogbe High School, Oda.

The Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Olufemi Agagu expressed satisfaction with the turnout of staff and students on the first day of resumption for the new term.

The Commissioner, while monitoring schools’ resumption in Akure and environs, said government would continue to prioritise education in the state and ensure that the state maintains its leading position.

He said the proactive and unrelenting efforts of government through the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, have put both the staff and students on their toes and ensure that the system runs smoothly, adding that officials of the ministry were simultaneously monitoring the resumption across the state.

Agagu, who also inspected facilities at the schools, called for synergy among stakeholders in providing the required infrastructural facilities for schools and other necessities for the smooth running of the education sector, noting that government alone cannot successfully fund the education sector.

He acknowledged the contributions of Old Students’ Association to the development of infrastructure in some schools, especially Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, and encouraged old students across the state to always give back to their alma mata.

He was particularly impressed by the massive transformational projects going on at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure and commended the Old Students Association for embarking on the developmental projects.

Mr. Agagu, while emphasizing that the state government had committed a lot to infrastructural development in primary schools, assured that secondary schools in the state would also continue to be given proper attention.
