Revert to old fares, ODSG urges Akoko drivers

Ondo State Government has directed commercial drivers in Akoko South West Local Government area particularly, Oba, Oka, Akungba and Supare to revert to the old transport fares in their communities.

The government said the subsisting ban on  indiscriminate increase in fares was still in force  and therefore would not entertain any act that can lead to unwarrant protest and communal clashes

The  Special Adviser to Ondo State  Governor on Transport, Mr Tobi Ogunleye stated this while playing host to the Akoko South West Youth Forum who came to protest the wanton and incessant hike in transport fares in their communities.

Ogunleye said the position of the government concerning increase in transport fare was that no transport operator can unilaterally put a dime on transport fare.

He said government will not fold its hands for any unscrupulous element to cause mayhem in these peace loving communities saying  security of life and property of the people was important to the government.

He explained that the Local Government was housing a university community and everything must be done to avoid protest from the students when they resume back to school.

The Special Adviser admonished the concerned transporters to revert to the old price saying union activities in the park stand suspended.

Ogunleye condemned outrightly the action of the drivers for causing damage to the vehicles donated to the Youth Forum and begged the youths not to be provoked by the attitude of the drivers saying government cannot afford another protest from the youths.

He warned that anyone caught going against the normal price will face the full wrath of the law.
