Road expansion excites Oda, Ijoka residents

Road expansion excites Oda, Ijoka residents

By Sunmola Olowookere
Residents and motorists in Oda and Ijoka that ply the road are full of happiness as both roads take on a new shape with the commencement of the roads expansion.

This came at the heels of the Ondo state government planned expansion of some major roads in Akure, the Ondo state capital which are nearing completion.

The decision of the state government to embark on the expansion of the road leading from Shoprite down to Oda town and the Ijoka road was due to the congestion being experienced on both roads.

A motorist, Mr. Jide Suleiman said that the congestion on the road was due to the large numbers of civil servants living in Oda town and Ijoka road that ply the road on their way to work and the narrowness of both roads especially Ijoka road.

He lamented that the potholes that had gradually appeared on the roads also contributed to the traffic congestion on the road.

As the road construction began with the clearing of bushes and structures in order to give to the expansion, residents are excited at the prospect of the expansion.

A taxi driver, Mr Tajudeen Ishola stated that the planned expansion will bring a new lease of life to the residents as the perpetual traffic congestion on the roads will become a thing of the past.

He expressed the hope that the government will keep up the tempo with which the work commenced while observing that the work was progressing daily.

A secondary school student, Omosalewa Ogunsuyi expressed happiness at the development as she said that the traffic congestion on the road usually make students get late to school.

Her words “Now we will be able to get to school on time and settle down for our studies. there would be no rush by the time we resume”.

A public servant, Mrs Esther Adejube described the expansion as an answer to the prayers of residents plying the road. She stated that the congestion usually witnessed on the roads had caused accidents and fights between motorists often.

She expressed hope that the government would speed up work on the project so that it would be completed in record time.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye in a recent report has assured that the present government executes its projects systematically in phases.

“All what we are doing now is, attending to those major problematic roads, which are not befitting our capital city. We are not unaware of the problems occasioned by potholes and failed portions in the roads of the state capital.

He promised that work on the roads mapped for reconstruction and rehabilitation will receive due attention.

His words “First of all, we have to make it motorable, before commencing construction work.

That is what government is meant to do; make life more meaningful for the people. That is what we are doing. We have to deliver on our promise to serve the people”

The Commissioner assured that every part of the state will feel government impact.

Also reacting on some of the road construction ongoing, the Commissioner for Information had assured some residents of Ondo state to trust the Ondo state government as all roads that require Government attention like others would be touched across the State.

He was reacting to the SOS call by some residents of Igoba on the state of their roads.

His words “Not only residents of the area  are affected. Every other commuter who has something to do around that axis is equally affected. I can assure, re-echoing Mr Governor’s resolve: no part of the State will be left behind in terms of the  infrastructure drive. “Yesterday it was Gaga and others. Today, it’s Oda road, Orita-obele etc. Tomorrow shall be Igoba’s. The difference is time”.
