Road side trading prohibition: Traders laud Akeredolu, pledge support

Traders in Akure have expressed delight as a result of the free flow of human and vehicular movement along Oba adesida road through the popular Oja Oba  market in Akure.

The traders, while speaking with The Hope yesterday said the prohibition of road side trading has made the market cleaner and free from obstructions to humans and vehicles.

The road was initially bewildered with traders displaying their wares very close to it, posing huge serious obstructions to pedestrians and motorists.

Officials of the Ondo state task force were seen at strategic places along the road to ensure that traders comply with the state government directive that prohibits road side trading along the road.

A provision trader, Mrs Folorunsho Taiwo, told The Hope that the road was free and pedestrians could walk freely without any disturbance from wheel barrows, vehicles and motorcycles and the traders, adding that everyone had been selling their markets without disturbing anyone.

A meat seller, Mr Tunde Ojo, expressed appreciation to Ondo State Government for the initiative.

In his words: “The road is very free and more safer to pedestrians and also there is no traffic and we are also grateful that it was successful and there is no trouble in the market. We are happy with the way it is now.”

A traditional concoction seller, Mrs Shittu Olufunmi, also expressed her delight the development.

She, howeve,r admonished the government to also fix the road that leads to Odo-Ikoyi in Akure so as   to put an end to congestion within the market.

A yam seller, who simply gave her name as Mrs Obabiolorunkosi, said, “The government is really trying because he  been doing very good things in this his administration. He had repaired the bad roads and also done all that is within his capacity. “I am also happy about the free flow of movement along the roads.
