Residents of Irun Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State are now living in fear over the incessant kidnapping and robbery cases on the Ikun/Oba road.
The Hope Metro reliably gathered that, farmers in the area are no longer going to their farms, while traders engaged in business in the town could no longer travel out of the town to do business for fear of being kidnapped or fall prey to armed robbers, who usually waylay them from their hideouts, mostly at bad portions of the road.
Recently, the husband of a kidnapped victim, Babatunde Adefarati, disclosed that he had to pay the sum of N1,000,000.00 before her abducted wife could be released by her captors.
Meanwhile, residents of the town have called for an urgent repair of the road and increased security patrol of the road to check cases of kidnapping and armed robbery that is fast becoming a daily affair in the area.
A community leader in the area, Reverend Niyi Foluso, appealed to the government of Ondo State to repair the road, as its deplorable condition is greatly facilitating the activities of the men of the underworld in the area.
Reverend Foluso also called for an increased security patrol of the road by men of the Nigerian Police.
In the same vein, the Divisional Police Officer for Oba Akoko Police Division, Oluwole Fabiyi, assured residents that his men are on top of the situation.
Fabiyi said the police in the area will be working with local vigilante groups and local hunters in the area to check the activities of criminals and flush out the men of the underworld from the area as the place is not a safe haven for criminal elements.
