RUGIPO gets new SUG President

Comrade Shane Thompson Aigbodon, a student from the Department of Mass Communication, has been elected as the new Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).

The Chairman of the Independent Student Electoral Commission (ISEC), Comrade Okonye Steven, announced the results of the election, which took place on Friday.

Okonye stated that Shane won with 240 votes, defeating his opponent, Ajakaye Festus Oluwatosin from Mass Communication, who secured 199 votes.

A total of 9,669 votes were registered for the election, with 447 votes cast.

In other results, Babalola Veronica Irewamiri won the Vice President position with 229 votes, while Eniolorunda Bamidele, running unopposed from the Department of Library and Information Science, secured 320 votes to become the General Secretary.

Adeyemi Blessing Sunday emerged victorious for the position of Financial Secretary with 313 votes, and Aralepo Kazeem Olakunle was elected Treasurer with 214 votes.

Busari Odunayo Waheed won the Welfare Director position with 207 votes, Olasoji Ifedayo Tobiloba claimed the Social Director position with 278 votes, and Tolorunju Joshua Monday was elected Sports Director with 343 votes.

Okeaje Ayodeji Matthew won the Assistant General Secretary position with 261 votes, while Olagodo Vincent Damilola was elected Public Relations Officer with 194 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Shane, expressed his gratitude to the voters and pledged to work tirelessly for the betterment of the students and the growth of the institution.
