RUGIPO Governing Council extols Olowo’s virtues

Chairman, Governing Council , Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Banji Alabi, has condoled with the royal family and Owo kingdom on the ascension of the Olowo of Owo, Oba David Victor Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi III.

He led top management officials of the institution to the Olowo palace and were received by the Senior Omo Olowo, the Otukens and the Royal family.

Alabi who was represented by the Acting Rector, Mr. Gani Ogundahunsi, described the monarch as a unique and quintessential traditional ruler saying his demise was a great loss to the kingdom and the state.

He noted that when he visited the Olowo on March 28, the monarch showed considerable interest in the happenings of the institution and had praised the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for settling significant portion of the nine months salary arrears owed the Polytechnic workers by the past administration.

According to him: “The Olowo had praised the courage and tenacity of the Governing Council and Management in implementing the state government’s order to “Retool, Reconstruct and Reposition Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo and make it a leading research institute committed to improving human condition through advanced science and technology.”

Ogundahunsi described the monarch as a man of peace who loved Owo passionately.

He said the Olowo would be greatly missed for his wealth of wisdom and commitment to the peace and progress of Owo Kingdom.

He recalled his last visit to the Olowo on 28th February, 2019 to felicitate with him on the occasion of his 20th coronation anniversary when the monarch prayed for him and his management team and expressed commitment to the progress of the institution.

Responding on behalf of Senior “Omo Olowos”, High Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba thanked them for the condolence visit and for being the first corporate body to make such visit.

He noted that the polytechnic is very important to Owo, as it has created an economic platform for Owo to exist and blossom and that was why the Olowo was very passionate about the institution.

He also averred that everybody in Owo knows the value of the Polytechnic to the community and that Owo people are praying for the institution to prosper and be a hub of economic boom for the Kingdom.

Ekungba therefore advised the polytechnic Management to commence economic activities on their large expanse of land to boost the economy of Owo, increase the Institution’s internally Generated Revenue and guide against encroachment.
