The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, (RUGIPO), has appealed to various unions of the institution to resume for academic activities following the approval by the state government increasing its subvention by 30 percent.
RUGIPO Rector, Dr. Gani Adebola Ogundahunsi made the appeal in an interview with The Hope, yesterday.
He disclosed that the approval of the increment of the subvention will be effective from June 2023.
He disclosed that the management has met with the three unions in the school, the Academic Staff of the Polytechnic, ASUP, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic, SSANIP and Non Academic Staff Union NASUP so that they can resume academic activities.
Ogundahunsi appealed that the striking workers should endure a bit further, saying they would start enjoying the new subvention.
He said he sympathized with them, saying that tough time will not last. He assured that they will smile again, but urged them to show some level of endurance and sacrifice.
He said they should consider the future of the students which may be truncated and especially the parents, most of whom are less privileged.
His words: ” Over head cost kept increasing, we have to buy diesel, to run the school whenever there is no electricity to burn diesel 7-9pm for the students and 6am – 7am on a daily basis.”
He appealed to the unions to consider the future of the students and allow them return to class for their examinations.
