Stakeholders in the Akoko area of Ondo State have called for rural banking as part of policies to revamp the ailing economy.
According to them, rural banking remains a veritable instrument in invigorating the poor economy of rural areas which will provide the pedestal on which the Nigerian economy will grow.
They posited that apart from corruption which is the killer of the Nigerian economy, lack of grassroots or rural banking is also another top issue why the economy is in a bad state.
The Iyalaje of Ikare Akoko, Alhaja Risikat Muhammed who decried the situation where the whole of Akoko Division can only boast of commercial banks in just Ikare, Irun, and Akungba, said this is very sad and anti-economy.
In the same vein, Mr. Jide Afolabi from Isua Akoko called on the new CBN Governor to reverse the rural banking policy and direct commercial banks to open branches in rural communities to encourage a savings culture.
A retired police officer from Oba Akoko, Mr Ade Ojomo, in his view, urged security agents to be more proactive to reduce bank robbery in the country.
