Sale of Indian hemp lands man in prison

A 27-year -old man, Wisdom Awojumo has been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling Indian hemp.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person conducted himself in a manner that caused breach of public peace by selling Indian hemp.

He added that the accused person had in his possession a substance suspected to be Indian hemp worth 200kg.

The prosecution said Awojumo committed the offence on September 14, 2019 at about 2:30 in   Ile-Ife.

The offence contravened Sections 249(d) and 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused person was charged with three-count charge of breach of peace as well as possession and selling of Indian hemp.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

Mr. Ben Adirieje, who appeared for the defendant  prayed the court to grant his client bail, promising to produce reliable sureties and would not jump bail.

The presiding Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi, declined the bail application and ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison.

Owolawi directed  the defence counsel to produce a written application for his bail.

The case was adjourned till October 10, 2019 for ruling on bail application.
