Sales rep drowns in Akure hotel

Tragedy struck in Akure, the Ondo state capital on Tuesday, as an Abuja-based marketing officer, Jeremiah Tor, drowned in the swimming pool of a popular hotel, located along Ado-Owo expressway, Akure.
The Ondo State Police Command, said it is currently investigating the possible cause of the death of the middle-aged man, who was working with a marketing firm, Right Price Advance Sales Marketing Limited Garki, Abuja.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the deceased who was on an official marketing business trip to Akure, lodged in the hotel with his colleagues, identified as Victor Johnson, 25, Mohammed Usman, 26, and Francis Fiase, 27.
On the fateful day, he was said to have gone with his colleagues to swim in the pool, before the ugly incident happened.
The Hope Metro gathered that while they were swimming, the deceased, Jeremiah Tor, suddenly drowned in the pool.
The police sources disclosed that it was one of his colleagues and other people who came to the hotel that noticed his lifeless body floating.
It was reported that they immediately swung into action and tried to rescue him alive. But all efforts proved abortive, because by the time he was brought out and rushed to the State Specialist hospital in Akure for resuscitation, he was already dead.
The deceased until his sudden death was based in Abuja, but was in Akure with his colleagues for the company’s marketing business.
It was gathered that one Mr Rotimi Betiku, a staff of the hotel, reported the case at Ijapo police station.
The Police spokesman, Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, described it as shocking and sad.
He advised people to be more careful and take everything they do seriously.
His words: “It is unfortunate this has happened. We should learn to be more careful in everything we do.
“It is a good thing for one to take swimming as a hobby and a mode of relaxation. But when you know you are not too good in it, then do not go to the deep end.
“And for every pool, it is expected that there must be a life guard on ground to ensure the safety of every individual that comes to the pool.
He said the police is still investigating the possible cause of the death, while awaiting autopsy examination.
