Save Bisi Adeola Now!!!
Save Bisi Adeola Now!!!
ON December 5, 2019, Bisi Adeola, a hairdresser and mother of three, was nearly mauled to death by her husband, Shuaibu Kalejaye a.k.a Ajah, a commercial driver, for threatening to quit their 10-year-old marriage.
SHE now lies traumatized at the University of Medical Sciences Hospital in Ondo, a shadow of herself, as she suffers both physically and psychologically, with doctors battling to save her life.
ACCORDING to the victim, her husband locked the doors to their house on learning she wanted to quit the marriage so that neighbours would not come to her help when he assaulted her.
RIGHT now, Bisi Adeola has had an arm amputated and seeks financial assistance to enable surgery to be carried out on her second arm.
Domestic violence is a daily re-occurrence in Nigeria as findings show that two third of Nigeria women suffer one form of violence or the other from their men folks . Regrettably battered wives continued to suffer in silence due to lack of laws protecting women from violence . It is the absence of laws that have continued to encouraged some men to turn their wives into punching bags at the slightest provocation.
WHILE Adeola lies bedridden in the hospital thoroughly pummeled by her irresponsible husband, he is still threatening to wipe out Bisi’s family if she refuses to come back to him after her recuperation.
INDEED, The Hope is saddened by the wicked and inhuman act committed by Shuaib on his wife, and shocked that the police in Okitipupa have done nothing to arrest the perpetrator of the crime.
IT is even more heartbreaking and sad to know that this incident has incapacitated Adeola from meeting her obligation to her children and extended family who depends on her for survival .
WE believe this situation arises from a society that forces women to remain in marriage, even when it is clear that spouses show tendencies to be violent at the slightest provocation.
Regrettably, there are thousands of women who are trapped in loveless marriages where one or both spouses show inclinations towards violence, with society unable or unwilling to solve the problem .
HOWEVER, in view of the severity of Bisi Adeola’s injuries, we believe she has to be assisted in cushioning the effects of the violence meted out on her , especially as she has children to take care of.
We share in the sorrow, humiliation and brutality meted out to Mrs Adeola and we call for help from fellow women and women groups to get back to her feet.
CONSEQUENTLY, The Hope appeals to NGOs and human rights activists to please help save Bisi Adeola’s life through immediate treatments and rehabilitation.
But much more than this, women should know the character of a potential killer in their husbands and should seek for help to prevent life-threatening violence meted out to them.
IN addition, civil society organizations, families and other stakeholders should stop instructing women to endure marriages where violence and life-threatening activities are rife.
WE frown on the fact that the police have not yet caught the culprit and call on them to expedite action toward the apprehension of the perpetrator.
WE also appeal to the Ondo State Government to investigate this issue and bring Shuaib to justice, as it is dangerous for a man who shows such violent tendencies to be allowed to walk free.
UNFORTUNATELY, Bisi Adeola is not alone on the issue of domestic violence, so sensitisation campaigns against the occurrence are necessary to make couples know the danger inherent in the act.
IT is our hope that once stakeholders collaborate to bring the issue to the fore of the nation’s discourse there will be less incidence of the violence that is putting Bisi Adeola’s life at a risk.
