Save our soul, community urges Gov
From Agboola Fesobi, Owo
The people of Ilale in Owo Local Government have appealed to the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government to as a matter of urgency save them from the deplorable condition of their road from Ilale to Ute.
This call was made by his Royal Highness, Oba Folagbade Okikiola Adetifa (111) ,the Alale of Idasen Owo, to the Ondo State government to assist the community by fixing the major road linking the two communities.
Speaking further, the octogenarian Monarch said that the contractor handling the road had absconded from the site for almost six months now, for reasons not known to his people.
He stressed the need for government to visit the road and feel the pain of the entire community because the singular road connects almost seven villages.
He therefore appealed to the government to fix it and provide other amenities.
“Because of the bad road, farmers have been facing difficulty in an attempt to bring their produce to the market and this has led to high price of goods,” he posited.
Prince Abayomi Alale while speaking with The Hope said initially they were told it was an NDDC/Federal government project influenced by the member of House of Representatives, representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency in the lower chamber.
According to him, the community has made frantic efforts to ascertain why the road was abandoned but got no answer.
He stated that they later resorted to writing a letter to Governor Akeredolu to come to their rescue.
In the said letter, the community proposed that since the road was not initially flagged off by the Ondo state government, it community wants an alternative road from Muritala to Olaoluwa which will still serve the people, pending when the ongoing road that leads to Ute along Achievers University will be completed.
The Chairman of Landlord Association of the community, Mr Akinwale Folorunso said the situation presently is very bad considering the damage done in the course of rehabilitating the road.
He said that the contractor handling the road has left the site without any cogent reason given for the, desertion.
When The Hope visited the site, it was observed that the dust on the road has made people to relocate to another place in the community when their houses were daily filled with dust.
