Scavenger docked for alleged burglary, attempted theft

A 31-year-old scavenger, Olamilekan Ahmed, has been arraigned before the Akure Magistrates’ Court, on charges of alleged burglary and attempted theft.
The State prosecuting counsel, N.J. Osele, informed the court that the alleged offence was committed on November 3, 2024, at about 2:00 p.m., at Opposite Sawmill, Shagari Village, Akure.
Ahmed was accused of breaking into the residence of Ayodele Isijola with the intent to steal.
He was reportedly caught while attempting to escape from the house.
Osele stated that the alleged crime contravened Section 410 and is punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor said he would call two witnesses and requested an adjournment to enable the review of the case file and the preparation of witnesses.
In response, defence counsel A.I. Musa applied for bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that credible sureties would be provided by the defendant.
Magistrate T.I. Ayodele James granted Ahmed bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned to December 17, 2024, for further hearing.
