Fake scavenger, Obasoto Noah, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrate Court over unlawful possession of firearms.
The defendant allegedly committed the offence on January, 5 2022 at about 4:30pm at Olurowo street, ldase, Owo.
The prosecuting counsel, O.F Akeredolu, told the court that while armed with a pistol and three barrel guns, the defendant was arrested after a discreet investigation.
Akeredolu said the defendant could not provide any licence in respect of the firearms at the point of arrest and throughout the investigation.
The offences committed are contrary to and punishable under Section 3(I) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Akeredolu urged the court to remand the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, because he was reasonably suspected to have committed a felonious offence.
He said during the investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement and it will be in the best interest of justice that the remand application be granted.
The defence counsel, O.O. Oladapo did not object the remand application made by the prosecuting counsel.
In his ruling, Magistrates Damilola Sekoni ordered that the accused person be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
The case was, thereafter, adjourned till, February 16, 2024 for DPP advice.
